There are different temporary and permanent Australian visa options for parents of eligible sponsors. There are different sets of eligibility criteria for sponsors and applicants.
Following are the different options for Parent Visas:
Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa (sc870)
This temporary visa lets a parent of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen visit Australia for up to 3 or 5 years. You can stay for a cumulative maximum 10-year period.
Aged Parent Visa (sc804)
This permanent visa can be applied onshore and lets an aged parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen stay in Australia.
Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) Visa (sc884)
This temporary visa lets the aged parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen stay temporarily in Australia for up to 2 years and the applicant must be old enough to receive the Australian Aged pension. You can spread the cost of the permanent visa over a number of years by applying in 2 steps:
first, apply for the temporary Contributory Parent (Temporary) (subclass 173) visa, then
apply for the permanent Contributory Parent (subclass 143) visa
Contributory Aged Parent Visa (sc864)
This permanent visa lets the aged parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen stay in Australia and the applicant must be old enough to receive the Australian Aged pension.
Parent Visa (sc103)
This is a permanent visa that lets a parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen move to Australia. If you apply for the subclass 103 visa as a retiree, you don’t have to:
meet the balance of family tests, or
have a sponsor or an assurance of support
Contributory Parent (Temporary) visa (sc173)
This temporary visa lets a parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen stay temporarily in Australia for a period of up to 2 years. You can spread the cost of the permanent visa over a number of years by applying in 2 steps:

apply for the permanent Contributory Parent (subclass 143) visa
Contributory Parent visa (sc143)
This permanent visa lets a parent of a settled Australian citizen; an Australian permanent resident of Australia or an eligible New Zealand citizen to move to Australia. If you apply for the subclass 143 visa as a retiree, you don’t have to:

have a sponsor or an assurance of support
