Partner visas are available to spouses or de facto partners of eligible sponsors who must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens. Partner visa pathway can ultimately lead to the grant of permanent residency.
The applicant for an Onshore and Offshore Partner visa must be able to show that they and their eligible sponsor are in a genuine, exclusive, committed, and ongoing relationship, which could be substantiated with any one of the following:
A legal marriage (this includes a legal same-sex marriage); or
A de facto relationship, which has been in existence for at least 12 months; or
A legally recognised registered relationship.
The applicant and the sponsor require substantial documentary evidence, including statements from relatives and friends, evidencing the relationship.
Onshore Partner Visa

This temporary visa lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia temporarily. Getting this visa is the first step toward a permanent Partner visa (subclass 801).
Partner Visa (Permanent) (sc801)
This visa lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia permanently. It is usually only for people who currently hold a temporary Partner visa (subclass 820).
Offshore Partner Visa
Partner (Provisional) Visa (sc309)
This visa lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia temporarily. Getting this visa is the first step toward a permanent Partner visa (subclass 100).
Partner (Migrant) Visa (sc100)
The visa lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen, live in Australia permanently. It is usually granted to people who hold a temporary Partner visa (subclass 309).
